Founded in 1992, Suited for Change provides professional clothing and ongoing career and life skills education to low-income women to increase their employment and job retention potential and to contribute to their economic independence. Suited for Change’s services are available at no charge and by referral only to low-income women who have completed job readiness programs and are seeking employment.

Suited for Change is a founding member of The Women’s Alliance, a national organization of independent community-based "sister organizations" who provide professional attire, career skills training and related services to low-income women seeking employment.

Clients come from the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Northern Virginia and include homeless women, survivors of domestic violence, teen mothers, senior citizens, former offenders, and those who have overcome addiction. Suited for Change "suits" more than 100 women each month. Since their founding in 1992, Suited for Change has helped more than 13,000 area women transition into the workforce.

CREW’S COMMITMENT
There are several ways CREW supports Suited for Change in achieving its mission. Through monthly personal shopping volunteer opportunities, attending and working boutique sales, and in-kind donations, as a CREW member you have the opportunity to become as involved as you want to be while supporting women entering the workforce.

Attending volunteer training before volunteering is strongly encouraged, however, not required in order to volunteer with Suited for Change. Training sessions will be held every month, on the third Thursday from 6:30 - 8:00 pm.

CREW VOLUNTEER ROLES
Personal Shopper: Personal Shoppers work individually with Suited for Change clients shopping the clothing boutique and dressing clients for upcoming interviews and new jobs. Personal Shopping is an incredibly fun and rewarding way to volunteer, since we all know that looking good means feeling good, clients leave Suited for Change with new energy and confidence for their upcoming employment opportunities.

Boutique Sale Attendant: Boutique Sale Attendants help run and manage the Suited for Change’s monthly sale of items donated that don’t meet Suited for Change’s specific mission.

To sign up to volunteer with Suited for Change, please fill out the form linked below. After submitting your request you will be contacted directly with confirmation of date and time you are volunteering as well as any pertinent information you may need for the day.
