Winning Ways—Developing with WMATA

The June program was an nicely balanced discussion of WMATA developments and future plans. Everyone on the panel, including the moderator, Jonathan Kaylor, Senior Vice President, Boston Properties, emphasized how important metro accessibility and capacity is for our area and in attracting commercial real estate tenants and businesses. The two WMATA representatives, Allison Davis, AICP, Manager, Regional Planning, Office of Planning, and Stan Wall, Director, Office of Real Estate and Station Planning, gave detailed presentations. Allison discussed WMATA’s 5, 10, and 50 year plans and admitted that there is a lot of work to do to keep up with the rapid growth of the DMV. Stan discussed ongoing development projects and gave an update as to what development projects are currently available for bid. Aakash Thakkar, Senior Vice President, EYA, gave the audience a look into what it is like to work with WMATA, discussing the controversial Takoma Park metro project EYA is currently working with WMATA to develop in the face of some push back from residents who are concerned about loss of green space.
