CREW DC Welcomes Mayor Muriel Bowser

On January 29, 2015, CREW DC was honored to host new DC Mayor, Muriel Bowser. Mayor Bowser spoke to a sold out crowd of 250. Being that she is only in her first month in office, many people were interested to hear what she plans to do with commercial real estate development and investment in the District. Mayor Bowser praised women leaders in commercial real estate and introduced some of the women she has appointed in her administration, including Polly Donaldson, Director of DHCD and Ana Harvey, Director of the Department of Small and Local Business Development, who were both in attendance. Mayor Bowser indicated an interest in opening a dialogue with developers to bring more development, more jobs and more affordable housing to the city. She discussed the importance of future development of Walter Reed, McMillan Reservoir and St. Elizabeth’s and she promised $100,000,000 investment in affordable housing. After the Mayor spoke, a roundtable of four past CREW DC presidents, Dawn Marcus, Maureen Dwyer, Jayne Shister and Tanja Castro, reflected on what the Mayor said and what they hope the Mayor will address while in office.
