CREW EDU Tour of City Market at O - Repositioning Shaw

On June 16th, CREW members were awed during a tour of O Street Market. Armond Spikell of Roadside Development led the sold out program, which began at the residential property at 800 P Street. Armond discussed how Roadside struck a deal with Giant Supermarket to develop the property and introduced a new era of prosperity to the historic market. The market, which reopened after renovations at the end of 2013 and anchors the residential development, incorporated a hybrid design where it draws influences from both contemporary grocery stores as well as classic open air markets.

The residential developments are innovative as well. The buildings were each designed by a different studio with Shalom Baranes' office to effect a more organic neighborhood. The residential buildings combine subsidized housing and market rate units for a unique paradigm shift in D.C.'s multifamily arena. During the tour,  participants discovered many of the amenities to be extraordinary from the indoor dog washing station located next to the residents' dog park and to the 6,000 sf fitness and cycling studio.

We culminated the impressive tour with drinks and appetizers at the rooftop pavilion and enjoyed a panoramic view the city at dusk.
