What is it about Bialek Environments that has driven the firm to innovate and be a leader in their industry?

We are driven by the desire to be the best Herman Miller dealer and DIRTT distribution partners that we can be.  Bialek Environments actively seeks to improve process, performance and results by holding up a “mirror” and asking, “What can we do better?”   This comes from the top of our organization.  Our Executive Leadership Team actively connects with teammates to uncover where we can improve and make the process of buying interiors products easier for our clients and project partners.  As a result, our teammates drive the innovation. 

Our partnership with Herman Miller allows us to leverage some of the best research in the industry, which we use to help each client as they go through the process of creating a new space. From Living Office sessions to the extensive development process for new products, our partnership with the Herman Miller team allows us to bring cutting edge information, products and services to our clients.

Tell us about your values.
At Herman Miller, we respect each other as we are and focus on who we will become. Our culture represents the collective attitudes, aspirations, ideas, and experiences of the people who work here.
At Bialek, the culture comes from our teammates.  It’s a culture of trust, respect and inclusion.  Like our Herman Miller partners, the Bialek culture represents the collective attitudes, aspirations, ideas and experiences of the people who work here.  Our teammates are encouraged to bring new ideas and insights to the team.  This fosters a culture of learning, listening, responsibility and responsiveness.

What is the future of Bialek Environments?
Bialek Environments, with the support of Herman Miller, is extremely excited to continue our NexGen program to support design principals in educating their next generation of leaders. A series of classes was created that addresses communication skills, developing a design career, and industry knowledge. Now in its second year, Nextgen will grow to include “200-level” sessions that brings alums back to delve deeper into project pursuits and furniture specification.

We are in GROWTH mode!  Bialek was just named as one of the top 75 Fastest Growing Businesses in the DC area by Washington Business Journal.  We are seeking to expand all aspects of our business from Sales and Design to Project Management.  Our goal is to be the #1 provider of office interiors in the DC-Metro area.

When and how did Bialek Environments and Herman Miller begin their journey with CREW DC? How has CREW DC demonstrated growth to you?
As a WBENC-certified woman-owned small business, Bialek Environments is always seeking opportunities to support programs that aim to help women advance.  Our relationship with CREW DC is a natural fit!  Over that past several years, many of Bialek’s teammates have been members of CREW.  Currently, (3) of our teammates are very active members, with participation on various committees.

From the Herman Miller perspective, Herman Miller has been engaged in CREW DC and across the Country for decades. Many of our employees are women and the organization has been especially helpful in connecting them to the broader real estate community. CREW also has been the source of many new hires for us.

How does CREW DC support your company values?
CREW DC’s values mirror Bialek Environments values.  CREW DC provides opportunities for development of business and leadership skills.  We find this development invaluable as we cultivate future leaders within our own organization.  Our Bialek CREW-ers understand that the greater their participation within CREW, the greater the return on their relationship investments.  Our Commercial Sales Manager, Heather Dawson, is currently on the Education Committee.

From the Herman Miller perspective, investment in our people and leadership development are critical to our success. As part of their development, we encourage our employees to pursue leadership opportunities within professional development and non-profit organizations. One of our local team members, Amanda Ryland, is currently serving as Co-Chair of Membership and previously served at the Board level in CREW Philadelphia.

Herman Miller also is focused on diversity and inclusion at all levels. Through her involvement with CREW DC Amanda has been able to serve on the Diversity Task Force, allowing her to benefit and learn from CREW’s efforts.

Describe how Bialek Environments incorporates CREW DC into their business model?
We actively seek fellow CREW members to connect with on our projects.  Additionally, we find that our CREW partners are the best project partners.  We know that we have a shared value and vision.

What does CREW DC mean to you? What have you seen in the development of your team when engaging with other members?
We see CREW as a talent pool and leadership development tool. We also rely on CREW for networking and relationship development opportunities that support our business development efforts.

We see that CREW DC membership has helped our team engage on a greater and deeper level with other commercial real estate professionals.  We are reaching greater segments of the industry than ever before because of membership.  Committee membership and partnership has fueled our relationship growth. 

What surprises you most about CREW DC?
The amount of industry research available to us, as well as the connections and friendships that have resulted from membership.

What are you looking forward to next?
Bialek and Herman Miller are looking forward to continued business growth in all segments of our business, as well as deeper involvement in CREW DC.
