We are halfway through 2020 and what a challenging time it has been. When planning the 2020 calendar, we did not anticipate our industry working from home and participating in events by Zoom. CREW DC’s theme for 2020 is “Raise Up Your Voice.” One thing has not changed – the voices of CREW DC are louder and more powerful than ever.
I am proud that CREW DC rose to the occasion, pivoted during a global pandemic, provided resources in real time, and delivered value in new ways. CREW DC did not sit back and watch the world change around us. As strong female leaders in Commercial Real Estate, we are nimble, flexible, and creatively adjusting to this new way of life. As stay at home orders were put into place and in-person gatherings restricted, CREW DC quickly moved to online programs at no cost for members.
More than 25 professional development, networking, and learning sessions were held from March to June 30 reaching at least 650 members locally. CREW Network hosted another two dozen programs reaching thousands. These sessions educated participants on the state of the economy, workforce trends, COVID-19 response planning, construction strategies, and emerging technologies. We provide critical professional networking opportunities during a difficult time of social isolation.
CREW DC kicked off a new Social Media campaign that highlights members, sponsors, and our charitable partners. Since early April, our visibility and followers increased in all channels that include LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook. We connect to sponsor companies and amplify their messages through our platforms. If you have a particular message you would like to share with the CREW DC community, please connect with us so we can “Raise Up Your Voice.”
Our organization is developing a more active stance against racism in the wake of the death of George Floyd and the protests that followed. CREW has always stood to transform the industry through the advancement of women. We will take concrete steps to raise the voice, visibility, and influence of the diverse members within our organization. Frustration, along with hope, fuel innovation and change and we are ready to play an active role in that positive change.
CREW DC leads change in commercial real estate to better reflect the communities we serve. Thank you for sticking with us as we adjust. I am grateful for the commitment, confidence, and support of CREW DC members, sponsors and stakeholders. We operate in optimism for a brighter future.
I look forward to the day we welcome you back to a CREW DC event to thank you in person.
Cheers to our future together,
Jenna Kirkpatrick Howard
CREW DC President 2020
