Our CREW DC Leadership

Thinking about our goals for 2022, it’s hard to imagine it’s already May.  But even as I wonder how four months have passed so quickly, I eagerly look forward to the rest of the year and everything we have planned for our members.

This is the time of the year when we start to think about sustaining our future and recruiting next year’s Board leadership – and I want to make certain that every one of you also is thinking about both Our Future and Your Future within CREW DC.

We are seeking industry influencers to bring diverse backgrounds, perspectives, experiences, and knowledge to advance the mission of CREW DC.  I admit I was asked about Board service several times – and I declined for a variety of reasons – didn’t think I had enough time, didn’t feel I was qualified, wasn’t sure it was right for me.  

But, I finally agreed to apply for consideration as Treasurer.  I was comfortable with this role based on my finance background.  I was selected and serving on the Board has had more personal and professional impact than I could have ever dreamed.  I found so much camaraderie, support, and career satisfaction working with this group of talented women and after serving as Treasurer for two years, I applied for President-Elect (despite that nagging voice in my head that said, “You don’t want to be President!”).  And here I am today, serving as President with an incredible team of leaders.  These women are My CREW!  

I’ve heard stories like mine from many women who have served on the Board of CREW DC and other CREW chapters.  This could be Your CREW Story too.

One of the unique aspects of CREW DC is the inclusive nature of our nominating and selection process.  Any CREW DC member may nominate or self-nominate to serve on the Board of Directors.  It is our goal to build and sustain a diverse board bringing an array of perspectives, strategic thinking, and innovation into our work.  We value a Board with visible and invisible diversity, including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, discipline, and industry experience.

Nominations are open from May 15 to June 30.  Board applications will be provided to confirmed candidates and completed Board applications are due by July 10th.  The Nominating Committee  reviews all applications and confirms the final slate of candidates by mid-August.  The slate of candidates will be presented for membership vote in early September with new Board members beginning their service in January 2023.

Do you know a CREW DC member with industry experience, vision, and strong leadership skills?  Just fill out the very simple nomination form, and we will verify each person’s willingness to serve on the Board.  I encourage anyone who is considering Board service to self-nominate and apply.  

In 2022 we will be looking for five individuals to step into Board vacancies.  If your particular skill sets, industry, experience level, etc., do not fit a need and you’re not selected, do not be discouraged.  I believe you will find the application process very beneficial in refining your personal and professional value proposition.
