Lead with CREW

As a Board member of CREW DC, you play an important role in setting up the organization for success. Board members make sure that our mission, vision, and strategy are at the forefront of everything we do, connect members to opportunities and resources, practice public speaking, and create opportunities for diverse voices to be heard.

CREW DC Board service also will benefit your career. It provides professional growth opportunities and strengthens your personal brand.

Being selected as a Board member and as CREW DC’s president means the world to me. It shows that CREW DC trusts my vision, believes in my ability to represent its members, and endorses my expertise. Serving on the Board has moved me forward in ways I did not fully understand until I experienced it.

There are so many benefits of board service, but at the forefront I have been able to:
•    Grow my professional network
•    Hone my ability to contribute to a strategic direction
•    Sharpen my leadership skills
•    Lay the groundwork for future professional leadership positions
•    Elevate my professional reputation
•    Bring business to my firm through relationships built in CREW

Now is the time to start thinking about how you can add your voice to this amazing organization and what impact it might have on your career. Nominations will be open on May 25 and are due no later than July 9.

And the best part of the CREW DC process is that any member can nominate any other member or self-nominate. This intentional inclusivity opens the doors to diversity. It avoids development of cliques and allows our nominating committee to select Board members based on their skills, vision, and potential contributions to the role.

CREW DC builds and sustains a diverse board, bringing an array of perspectives, strategic thinking, and innovation into our work.  We value a Board with visible and invisible diversity, including, but not limited to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, age, discipline, and industry experience.

So, if you’re ready to follow more than 40 years of professional women who have given their hearts and souls to growing this organization for the betterment of its members, fill out this very simple nomination form, and we will do the rest. We’ll verify each person’s willingness to serve on the Board. I encourage anyone who is considering Board service to self-nominate and apply.

In 2024 there are general Board Director positions open as well as specific roles, including President-Elect, Secretary, and Delegate. Board Directors serve staggered two-year terms.  You can find many more details on our website here.

As a chapter with more than five hundred members, not everyone nominated can be selected in a given year. I encourage you to keep trying. I’m super passionate about CREW DC, and I wasn’t selected to be on the Board the first time I applied, and that’s OK. Each year the composition of the Board changes and needs are different. There’s always room to participate on a committee and continue building your business network.

If you have any questions at all about the process, you can reach out to me or to Kathy Allgier at kathyallgier@crewdc.org.
