A Conversation with Derek Thompson

With so many unknowns facing the commercial real estate industry, many are asking what should investors, owners, occupiers, designers, builders and operators do with the commercial/office real estate we have today? What – and who - is the office really for?

To help us tackle this question, CREW DC is pleased to host Derek Thompson, a creative, curious, future-focused author, podcaster and staff writer at The Atlantic, to bring his research, experience and perspective to this conversation. This will be an engaging, thoughtful, challenging conversation that pushes us all to think outside traditional commercial real estate approaches and seek solutions that work with the reality of our future. To paraphrase Albert Einstein, ‘The thinking that got us where we are will not get us where we need to be.’

Derek will be joined on stage by Julia Stevenson, CREW DC Board Director and Director with Langdon Park Capital. Julia will guide their conversation into impacts and implications for the commercial real estate space and probe for Derek’s perspective on best next moves for our industry as a whole. This will not be your typical commercial real estate discussion. We are stepping out and broadening our reach to cover new ground, new thinking, new perspectives.

This event is for decision makers in commercial real estate looking for fresh ideas – a bolder approach to understanding fundamental drivers for office space use. Look into the future with us to learn what - and who - the office is for.

Our venue is The Gathering Spot DC, a unique space coalescing various cultural elements and diverse groups of people to mount lasting and profound change in the District and the world.
